Applying ocular medication to a horse, particularly where frequent or prolonged treatments are needed is often a difficult, time consuming and hazardous experience. The use of lavage systems either in the lower or upper eyelid allows easier long term delivery of topical medications with improvement of patient compliance, operator safety and clinical results. Description of the lavage device, placement technique with comparison of lower and upper eyelid location of the topical medication delivering systems and their removal are covered.
