Case Report: Tracheal collapse in a six‐year‐old Yorkshire Terrier

A six‐year‐old male neutered Yorkshire Terrier presented with a 12‐month history of paroxysmal coughing. Investigations revealed grade III tracheal collapse, with marked obstruction to airflow at the thoracic inlet on expiration. Medical management, consisting of weight loss, antitussives and anti‐inflammatory steroids led to a slight improvement in the dog's signs, however the cough, exercise intolerance and hypoxic episodes continued. A flexible self‐expanding metallic stent was placed within the trachea under fluoroscopic guidance. This led to long‐term resolution of the dog's clinical signs.
